07/12/06 Syd Barrett

One of my meaningless ventures was to, while in the UK, visit Syd's place in Cambridge, even though I'd probably never see him. I've heared stories of people seeing him periodically walking out of decades of isolation to check his mail. Poor guy, mental illness, or in his case exessive use of drugs AND mental illness.

Back in the day(mid 60's), why the fuck did people treat him like shit. These hippies were living in his house, using him. I remember stories of people going over to Syd Barrett's place and asking "Where the fuck is Syd ? " and the dirty hippies of london's underground would responed, " Oh, he's in the closet, he's having a bad trip, haha"

This guy, though I don't know the details, was a major influence on Pink Floyd. I just wish I could've paid homage by camping out infront of his house. As far as I know, people stopped doing that 20 years ago. Whatever, he's dead now and will soon become even more of a legend.
